It will not be long before the 2022 World Cup kicks off in Qatar and Ghana’s Black Stars will be in the thick of it. We will definitely see Otto Addo’s team on the pitch three times. But how far will Ghana really go in this World Cup?

Facing CR7, Son and Valverde

The first match against one of the favourites will be decisive. Portugal with stars like Bernardo Silva, Ruben Diaz and of course Cristiano Ronaldo will show whether Otto Addo’s defence can withstand the Portuguese’s force and whether the attackers around the Ayew brothers, Inaki Williams and possibly Leverkusen’s Callum Hudson-Odoi are strong enough to pose problems to the opponent. Whether Hudson-Odoi will really switch national associations is still unclear. But even more important than the win against the top team from Portugal will be the games against South Korea and Uruguay for the Ghanaian team. Both teams have some absolute top players like Heung-Min Son or Federico Valverde in their squads
For Otto Addo, however, none of this is a problem. The coach is optimistic.

Ghana always had good footballers

“First and foremost we want to play our style of game and I think Ghanaian teams have always played good football in the past and that is what we want. We had previous tournaments which I think showed that Ghana has good footballers and that is also what we want,” Addo said in a recent interview with 3 Sports.

“That certainly includes wins and I think that is the first thing we want. If we get through the group stage, which I said will be very tough, then anything is possible.”

Wide support for the Black Stars

The coach strongly believes in his team and the whole country and even the entire African continent is behind the Black Stars on their mission to bring honour to the country.
