Football betting is arguably the most important area of sports betting. Our experts at Betting Tips Africa have prepared this football betting basics guide for our readers. This is one of our ways of attempting to enlighten your views and knowledge on football betting.

Without any doubt, football betting needs top knowledge for punters to succeed on a significant scale. We have a comprehensive betting tips page that we think can help you maximise potential profit-making avenues. Without further delay, let us delve into our new edition on football betting. As usual, on this website, we will follow a step-by-step process.

What Is Sports Betting?

Sports betting is an activity where punters predict sports events or football results. After predictions, they then proceed to place a stake/wager on their predicted outcomes. Sports have deep military roots, going back to the earliest days of organised play. Since its inception, which dates back as long as 70,000 BCE, sports have evolved and are now in their hundreds if not thousands.

What Is Football Betting?

There is not a doubt that football is considered to be one of the most popular sports that has ever been played anywhere in the world. Football betting is an activity where punters strictly predict football matches. Predictions can be made on numerous leagues across the planet, but the top five leagues are the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, and the French Ligue 1. After predictions, punters then proceed to place a stake/wager on their predicted outcomes.

Football is played on a global scale, which is why it is the primary focus of sports betting. This is also the reason why the players are being paid a huge amount of money to participate. There are football fans and punters in nearly every country in the world. The fans can be seen at either national or club games. More often than not, they become even more devoted to their respective teams.

Who Are Beginners In Football Betting?

Football Betting is an activity that needs knowledge as well as experience. In football betting, there are mainly two categories of punters: the beginners and the veterans. The beginners can be classified as novices, because they are just starting their journeys into the world of football betting. This category of punters needs a sizeable chunk of guidance to help them find their feet and not lose much of their money learning.

Football Betting Basics For Beginners

Below, we will go over some of the basic football betting markets and their meanings. This is intended to arm our football betting beginners with the adequate information they need to succeed with their bets. Let’s delve right in, shall we?

1 X 2 (Home, Draw, Away)

This is also called an outright bet. It is a bet on what will happen at the end of the match. If you select home, it means you are backing the home team to win the game. If you select draw or (X), it simply means that you are staking on a full time draw. Then, if you select the away team, it means your money is on the away team to win the match. The 1X2 betting market has been the most traditional since the inception of football betting. It can also be said as the market for which all other markets were formed. You can find this football betting market on virtually every sportsbook, including world-class ones like Betway, William Hill, and more.

Double Chance (Win Or Draw)

The double chance market simply means you are backing two different outcomes for one team. If you are backing a home win or draw, it means that you are banking on the home team to either win or draw the match. If you are betting on an away win or draw, it simply means that you are staking on the away team to either win or draw the match. So, in both scenarios, if the team you are backing wins or draw the game, then you have won your bet. If you are interested in staking games in this market, you can visit some effective bookmakers like Bet9ja, Betika, and more. These bookmakers are hosted on our site.

Both Teams To Score

In this betting market, the aim is quite simple and straightforward. As the name implies, both teams to score option means that you are backing the event that both teams score at least a goal during the match. If both teams score a goal, then you have won your bet; however, if one or both teams fail to score a goal, then the bet is lost. Most bookmakers offer this football betting market to punters. Overs/Unders

In the overs / unders section, there are numerous options for punters. For the overs section, there are over 0.5, over 1.5, over 2.5, over 3.5, over 4.5, over 5.5 and more. For the unders section, there are under 5.5, under 4.5, under 3.5, under 2.5, under 1.5. In this market, you are essentially predicting if the number of goals will exceed or below the chosen option. For example, if Chelsea played against Arsenal and you stake on over 1.5, you are essentially predicting that more than one goal will be scored in the game. If you pick over 2.5, you are saying that there will be more than two goals scored in the game. This is the same for all overs options.

If, in the game between Chelsea and Arsenal, you choose to stake in the unders section, you are saying that a certain threshold of goals will not be crossed. So, if you stake on under 4.5, you are predicting that there will be less than five goals scored in the game. If you pick under 3.5, you are staking on the possibility that there will be less than four goals scored in the game. This holds for all unders options.

Please note that it doesn’t matter which team gets the goals. Your bet wins as long as your threshold of goals is met.

Draw No Bet

In the draw no bet market, you are essentially predicting the winner of a game with a caveat attached. In the eventuality that the match ends in a draw, the bet will be void. This is different from the traditional 1 X 2 option, where a draw could make you lose your bet. For example, let’s assume that Manchester United visited the Anfield stadium to play against Liverpool.

If you pick Manchester United to win under the draw no bet market, you are essentially predicting that the Red Devils will win the game. However, in the eventuality of a draw, the bet will be void. This bet only loses if Liverpool wins the match.

Vice versa, if you pick Liverpool to win under the draw no bet market, you are staking your money on Liverpool to win the game. If the game ends in a draw, then the bet will be void. This bet only loses if Manchester United wins the game.
